We are looking for high school or college students who have the drive to be involved with their community. We accept any applicants who are willing to dedicate a couple of hours of their lives to make a difference in a student’s education. Also if you speak another language, please let us know when you sign up so that we may help more communities where English is not the primary language.
Peer Outreach Connect currently tutors students in Kindergarten to 8th grade. We wanted to focus on this grade range so that subjects/topics covered during tutoring sessions are easier for volunteer tutors to cover. However, we do have future plans to extend this program to high school students such as covering AP courses or SAT/ACT prep.
The following subjects will be offered to these students:
-Math
-English
-Language
-Science
-Other courses not listed
Although there are a variety of subjects offered, we do not expect you to tutor all these subjects. Instead, simply select only the subjects you are comfortable tutoring when you sign up and we will set up sessions for only those subjects.
To apply for this program, sign up with the signup option on the volunteer tab. We will ask for some of your information such as your phone number and email so that we may have contact with you. You will also provide us with other information such as what subjects you would like to tutor or what school you are attending so we can help verify your community service hours for you.
After you have submitted an application, we will try to schedule a 10 to 15 min Zoom meeting to try to explain the process or other important information you should know when tutoring. This orientation will only be required if it is your first time signing up with us.
Throughout the week, we will send you emails giving you time slots for tutoring. By giving you different options throughout the week to tutor, we want to ensure that it fits with your schedule and time availability. We will also include what subjects or specific topics the students need help understanding. Note that each session schedule is 1 hour long. The parents of the students being tutored are only allowed to schedule 2 sessions a week. Therefore, you may have options of tutoring for 1 or 2 hours per student. Don’t worry if none of the time slots provided do not work with your schedule. There will be plenty of other opportunities to volunteer and if an opening comes up, we will try our best to accommodate the availability of both parties.
Each session will be 1 hour long over Zoom. We ask that you respect your students' privacy and other conditions they may or may not have. Each student is unique and may have different learning styles, so we ask that you be an exemplary role model and be patient with them. At the end of the session, we will send a survey to the parents of the students so that we may gather feedback to provide the best experience for everyone in the future. If any problems during or outside of the tutoring arise, feel free to contact us at Peeroutreachconnect@gmail.com.
For the respect of any parties involved, we ask that you give us an early notification if you are unable to make a session. In addition, you should try to be early for your session as we only allow a limited number of tardies. Any session that is canceled on your end will not result in any hours. If you miss a session without notification you will be issued a warning before having to schedule a meeting with us if you want to volunteer in the future.
Lastly, at any time, you may view how many hours you have accumulated volunteering for our program. When you first sign up with us and have completed the orientation, we will assign you a 6 digit ID number. Simply select Access community service hours. You will be directed to a google sheet and find your 6 digit ID number that will contain information such as dates you have completed sessions, how many hours you have accumulated, or whether your hours have been verified.
